Grant Evaluation and Reporting

The path to meaningful community change is complex, dynamic and ever-changing. And it requires all of us from grantees and nonprofits to funders, policymakers and community members to make positive, lasting progress.

Learning and evaluation help us to keep a line of sight on our big goals while assessing the impact of our work, testing hypotheses and evolving plans along the way. We learn best alongside our grantees – and want to meet grantees wherever they are in their evaluation journey. We partner with grantees in the following ways:

Evaluation through grantmaking

We want to understand how our grantees define and measure success. We embed evaluation and learning questions and measures in our standard application and reporting process. When a grantee needs additional support, we provide thought partnership and tools and templates to facilitate the evaluation process.

Evaluation studies

In order to understand the impact across multiple grantees, we may ask grantees to engage in evaluation and learning activities beyond their grant. Often an external evaluator is brought on by Interact for Health for these efforts.

Strengthening nonprofit capacity

In 2022, Interact for Health and bi3, along with the HealthPath Foundation, formed the Data for Equity Funding Collaborative to provide funding, technical assistance and learning opportunities to nonprofit organizations to advance equitable data and evaluation practices at their organizations. The first cohort includes 10 grantees. See the InterAct for Change page to learn more.

In addition to grant evaluation, we also believe it’s important to turn the lens inward to examine our foundation effectiveness. Learn more about how we are holding ourselves accountable to our mission, partners and community.
