CINCINNATI (August 5, 2025) — As a collaborative of organizations committed to a thriving Cincinnati, we believe there is no place for violence in our communities. The way forward lies in a shared understanding of the causes of violence and a united commitment to action.
Over the past 18 months, we have developed a robust, community-engaged strategy to address gun violence in Cincinnati. This strategy is rooted in the experiences of youth and adult community members living in our neighborhoods, as well as organizational leaders.
The focus of this strategy for long-term, sustainable change focuses on five key areas:
● improved emotional wellbeing and mental health● reduced accessibility of firearms to youth● improved youth support● thriving neighborhoods● policing innovations
This collaborative effort – named Achieving Change Together (ACT) for Cincy – has brought business leaders, community-based organizations, health care leaders, and community voices together with leaders at City of Cincinnati to tackle this critical problem. ACT for Cincy has begun to implement solutions, mobilize action teams, and pursue ongoing problem-solving efforts. Recent data are positive: Cincinnati has seen a 22% reduction in gun violence in 2025 compared to 2024.
Much work remains. While gun violence is down, violence overall is not. We have robust strategies and tools to find solutions; we now must apply them to addressing violence as a whole. We believe that Cincinnati can become a city with thriving communities free of violence, and we are committed to making that progress together. This long-term strategy will take time to create real, long-lasting improvement. Short-term actions remain important and are also part of a comprehensive approach.
These moments call for unity and determination. ACT for Cincy represents our shared, data-driven path forward for a safer Cincinnati — uniting long-term vision with urgent action.
